Description:

Antonio Lauro (born August 3, 1917 in Ciudad Bolívar, Venezuela, died April 18, 1986 in Caracas) was a Venezuelan guitarist, considered to be one of the foremost South American composers for the instrument in the 20th century. It is named after his own daughter Natalia. This is by far Lauro's most famous work, commonly known as Vals criollo (the title under which it was recorded by Andrés Segovia), or as Vals No.3 (the title under which it was published in 1963). Thank you Luna for inspiring me to play Venezuelan music! JÄD! Peo

I really don't have an opinion on fanfretted guitars as I have never played one... :-(

I see. Do you re-tune it for pieces in different keys? The basses, I mean. Oh, also, I wanted to ask you: what do you think of fanned-fret guitars? Kind of like what Galbraith uses? It's also 8 strings if I'm not mistaken.

Yes there is a fretboard under the strings but you seldom use it. Mostly open strings...

Thanks. Yes, I've seen the picture of it, but I didn't know how it's tuned though. So you tune the bass strings differently for every piece you play (assuming they're in different keys, of course)? Sounds like a harp a bit... but, harp strings hang in the air, yet, in this guitar (and unless I'm mistaken), I remember that the there _is_ fretboard under the bass strings -- and moreover, under the last couple of them it even extends into the headstock (?!).

LOL You play only (or 95%) with open bas strings... you tune them after the key. search Google for "altgitarr" and you will see a picture of it.

That's a weird tuning... What's it good for? Too little difference between strings, hard to fret, no?

You're welcome. Diatonic means it tuned like a scale. C, D, E, F,...

Wow. Thank for the explanations, Mr Kindgren. Btw, what does it mean, 'diatonic strings'?

It is a hybrid. The seven strings are tuned like a rennesaince lute (Dowland)and then there are 4 extra bas strings so you can play Bach...

Why is it made like that? Is it then exactly like a lute or is it something else?
