also try howstuffworks dot com. It has a nice explanation of the stirling cycle. (you'll have to search their site for stirling engine but it's quite easy to use)

I don't think thats feasible myself - too little heat/not hot enough. But perhaps you could run a torch for a few minutes off a supply of hot water. You could actually have a sterling engine torch that holds hot coffee. Everyone likes coffee and the person that brings an LED torch camping is king. You'd be very popular:D

Replace the piston with a diaphragm, lose the leaf spring, add a regenerator, encase the whole thing in a sealed casing filled with an efficient, pressurised working fluid. Bingo, a frictionless (no rubbing bearings) Sterling generator that is maintenance free and could run continuously for years.

A free piston Stirling engine is actually more efficient then one's with crankshafts,... and just for that reason,... much less friction. In a free piston the magnets would pass a set of coils, just like the L.E.D. flashlights that you shake. Same idea.
