Description:
Don't want to look like an idiot your first day on set? Jerkwater is here to save the day, risking his personal career to dish the dirt you'd normally learn on the job. Did you know that the "C" in "C-Stand" stands for "Century," because that's the original company that made 'em? YOU'VE JUST BEEN MADE SMARTER! Get even more educated by watching the rest of the video, with a special segment on "Secret Set Speak" (how to take a piss) at the end. |

MarcosElMalo ::: Favorites I've always called them grip arms and grip heads but if you asked me for a gobo arm, I'd know what to hand you. Anyway, this was a great little tutorial. Maybe you can do one for "advanced" C-stand technique, like the different bases (turtle is always my favorite), keeping the arm from poking out an eye (I noticed you used the tennis ball gag on one set up), and staging stands in a forest for quicker set ups, and how to carry 4 or more stands at once. Etc. 07-06-24 05:02:39 _____________________________________________________
MarcosElMalo ::: Favorites By the way, I found a grip arm in the middle of york blvd in highland park last week. Anyone missing a grip arm? I made up a new saying: If you find a grip arm in the road, take it. 07-06-24 05:03:21 _____________________________________________________
MarcosElMalo ::: Favorites There's this thing called google. Have you heard of it? 07-06-24 05:04:54 _____________________________________________________
MarcosElMalo ::: Favorites look on ebay for cheaper used ones. It's worth it to have one or two around the house. Last week I was shooting an interview and my boom operator flaked. C-stand to the rescue. Remove the grip head and you've got a stand for a baby. Or boom out a mini or inky. I also use them to dry laundry. 07-06-24 05:13:22 _____________________________________________________
DanHarkless ::: Favorites Yes I have, jackass, and I did Google it. I'm just giving some constructive criticism to indymogul. Their video series has focused on how to get fairly professional results for very low cost, so if they're suddenly talking about professional grip equipment, it would be worth a quick mention of what you can expect to pay for a low-end one (and if the cheapest ones are worth their salt, etc.). 07-06-24 16:35:56 _____________________________________________________
MarcosElMalo ::: Favorites Well, you're essentially asking them to list 100s of sources for C-stand purchases (which is something better for text, not video). Then you're asking them to evaluate all the models of c-stands out there to tell you which is the best cheap one. I think the c-stand review is a different video, Dan. Your constructive criticism in this case is really pretty useless. You're trying too hard to find something wrong. And speaking of constructive criticism, you seem pretty thin skinned. 07-06-24 18:09:00 _____________________________________________________
DanHarkless ::: Favorites No, that wasn't what I was asking them to do. You just don't get it, so never mind. 07-06-24 18:49:18 _____________________________________________________

mrkanister1978 ::: Favorites I hate c-Stands!!! Ok, they are some good for indoor shooting when you habe no stands left. You have to put a weight on it, everytime. Try to open it fast on a crowded filmset and you might hurt someone. You have to put on goboheads for almost all you want to do with a c-stand. The only good thing is, you can strip it down to a "turtle" and use it as a ground stand or put in an "oko-bonko" extension, thas the only cool thing you can do with a c-stand. Get real stands...like an Easylift ;-) 07-07-10 07:36:06 _____________________________________________________
mrkanister1978 ::: Favorites Cheap Stand? use broomstick in a bucket full of concrete or just put it 1/3 of its lenghth in the ground. Ok the concrete is quite a weight but it will not fall. The use ducktape or some clambs to fix what you want on the broomstick. But you know, lamps are getting hot, so be carefull. 07-07-10 07:40:59 _____________________________________________________ |
